TYRRELL MIDDLE SCHOOL CLUBS
If clubs take place on the same day, then the student must select only ONE club to attend on that day; they will have to choose one or the other. Sign-Up Link
HOMEWORK CLUB - Will meet Tuesday through Thursday from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM. Students may attend one or more days according to their needs. This is a voluntary program. No child will be scheduled without their willingness and/or desire to participate.
STEM CLUB - Do you like coding, robots, Legos, jigsaw puzzles, brain games and using your imagination??? Well, STEM club is for you! Each week, students will get a chance to explore their imagination and use both technology and their own hands to create and have fun. This club meets Wednesday afternoons with Mr. Terry in room 305 from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM.
CHESS CLUB - This club is open to all students that express an interest in the game of chess. The club will meet one time per week to practice skills. A tournament will be the club's culminating activity. This club meets Wednesday afternoons with Mr. Jones in room 102 from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM.
YEARBOOK CLUB - This club, for 8th grade students only, will meet on Wednesdays throughout the school year from 2:35-3:30 (late bus); dates will be determined and shared out by the advisor. Students interested in participating will have the opportunity to design and contribute to their 8th grade class yearbook. Jobs will include, but are not limited to, taking photographs of school events, designing pages within the yearbook (i.e. baby photos, collages, etc.), etc.
PEER TUTORIAL - An after-school tutorial/homework program. This program will be staffed by a certified teacher each day. This program will serve only students that voluntarily stay for assistance. This club meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM.
WRITING CLUB - This is a club, when available, that aims to enhance student writing skills. An advisor will meet with students one afternoon per week to provide support and instruction to aspiring writers. This club meets Wednesday afternoons with Mr. Hilliard in room 206 from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM.
STUDENT COUNCIL - Students are elected from homerooms to serve as Student Council representatives. Community service is viewed as an integral part of the middle school program. Student Council often sponsors projects and fund-raisers to foster the spirit of giving and community involvement. This club meets Tuesdays from 2:35 PM until the late bus arrives approximately at 3:30 PM.
BOOK CLUB - The Reading Club is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This club meets every Tuesday from 2:35 until the late bus arrives. Together, we can share our love of reading and explore new topics and genres of literature and also participate in fun activities. This club will meet with Mr. Terry in 305.
DRAMA CLUB - The Tyrrell Middle School Drama Club is offered for students who have a love of theater and musical productions. This club will begin in October. Announcements will be made by Mrs. Derynioski for meeting dates.
DEBATE TEAM - The Tyrrell Middle School debate team specializes in teaching members how to debate in parliamentary style. Members get into groups and research current or relevant topics to debate. The debate team is a fun way to socialize with others while educating oneself on the best debate practices. This club meets on Thursdays with Mrs. Sinatra room 109 from 2:35 until the late bus arrives. Club is capped off at 20 students; first come-first serve basis.
CASA CLUB - The goal of our club is to reduce substance misuse and promote wellness at TMS through staff and student collaboration, education, awareness, and community action. Joining will allow you to connect with like-minded students, make a positive impact on the TMS community, and help to provide your classmates with adequate prevention tools and resources. CASA club will be held on Thursdays (dates listed below) with Mrs. Bove room 101. Club is capped off at 20 students; first come-first serve basis.
